Social Work, Social Care and Social Services
The social work profession promotes social change, problem
solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to
enhance well-being. Utilizing theories of human behaviour and social systems,
social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their
environments. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to
social work.
Social care is defined by the Social Care Institute for
Excellence as covering all interventions provided or funded by statutory and/or
independent agencies which support older people, younger adults and children in
their daily lives, and provide services which they are unable to provide for
themselves, or which it is not possible for family members to provide without
additional support. They can be provided at home, in day centers or on a
residential basis, including substitute family care and care homes.
